Matty’s Song :)

Just under a week ago, my friend Matt and I had just returned from a ‘walk and talk’ as I like to call it.. where we walk and talk.. fancy that! haha.. and maybe sit on the grass, or talk to a tree, or drink tea, (Matt makes the most amazing teas!).. Or all of the above!

Sitting on the couch I look over to Matt’s guitar and pick it up. I start playing just single notes, one at a time, and before I can help myself it has moved to two and then three, and then a chord here and there. As I play, Matt is sitting with a massive smile on his face which inspires me on, and then he shows me a chord he’s been loving.. wow! It’s like my heart melts every time I play it. I can feel it! Matt and I have created a song!

Matt’s guitar is in an open tuning, (one note different to my ‘All Me’ track), and simply playing this riff over and over somehow soothes my soul.

I keep playing it over throughout the next couple of days simply because it feels so good, and then one moment whilst looking out at the ocean, the words just come. As I play, my own heart is so moved that I cry. I feel such love and thankfulness for Matt, and for the friendship that we have.. And then this expands and I feel love and thankfulness for every friend, every person, every act of love, every gift of support – in whatever way it has been shown over the years.

It’s almost as if everything has hit me at once, and the more I play, the more I feel. The more my heart heals of it’s own hurt, and the more I desire to be near and stand with those I love.

So here it is. Our song. Matty’s Song.

Filmed at The Loft on November 6th – the first time the world gets to hear it.

Matty’s Song by Sarah Shah & Matt Suckling

I know you’re strong

I know you’re tired of standing

On your own

Sometimes it’s nice

To have someone stand by your side

And though sometimes we start to go under

Swallow up part of the sea

Things we were yet to discover

On our feet

Though we would swallow our sadness

The ocean would love to disperse

Purify all of this madness

We have learned

We have learned

We have learned

All of this hurt

We have learned

And though sometimes we start to go under

Swallow up part of the sea

Things we were yet to discover

On our feet

On our feet x 4

Though sometimes we swallow our sadness

The ocean would love to disperse

Purify all of this madness

I know you’re strong

I know you’re tired of standing

On your own

Sometimes it’s nice

To have someone stand by your side

I know you’re brave

I know that fear has been calling

Your name

But you chose to stand

You chose to stand

Where you are.
